Recommended Film Noir Websites
Recommended Film Noir Websites
_Turner Classic Movies
is at the top of the list. Most Film Noir movies shown on television
will be found on TCM at some point in time. This website provides the
tools to research movies, watch original trailers, and purchase
sometimes hard to find items. My only suggestion to TCM to improve
navigation on the site is the addition of a Film Noir category.
Typically these movies are either listed as DRAMA, CRIME, or even
ROMANCE. It would be nice to have a category that also identifies the
movie as Film Noir.
_Internet Archive
is an exciting site once you learn what it available. This website is a
Non-Profit database that was founded in 1996 to build an Internet
library. Its purposes include offering permanent access
for researchers, historians, scholars, people
with disabilities, and the general public to historical
collections that exist in digital format. There are many Film Noir
movies that are now in the Public Domain. Movies can be downloaded
(legally) or streamed and watched directly from the website.
_Film Noir Foundation
is a website that is "Dedicated To Rescuing And Restoring America's
Noir Heritage". Here you can find what movies are airing on television
either on Turn Classic Movies or Fox Movie Channel.
There is also an expansive collection of video archives of noir-related
videos including interviews, short films, and Noir City guest
appearances. Noir City, The Annual San Francisco Noir Festival, that
began in January, 2003.
_Wikipedia
has a good reference page that attempts to explain exactly what is Film
Noir. This includes the "Classic Period" of the 1940's and 1950's,
Foreign Noir, and Neo-Noir. Although Film Noir may vary in definition,
and any list could be disputed, Wikipedia has a good comprehensive List of Film Noir Tiltles.
